The Great Depression was a hard time for many Americans. Particularly hard hit were the farmers. News reels would show much of the Midwest as a dusty wasteland. Under these conditions it was no surprise when a crop failed. Crop failure proved disastrous for the farmers. Many farms were lost to bank foreclosures. The banks wanted the land for large “corporate farms” were more profitable. Small farms were not. (2)
